The golf rulebook may seem a little bit more complicated than other sports. It was reported earlier this year that a new Rules of Golf would take effect at the beginning of 2019.
In the modern golf, golfers participating on tournaments are now closely being monitored thanks to the latest HD cameras. These gadgets can spot what the naked eye can’t see. Defying the rules today will surely alert the officials keenly surveying the links.
Like in all the other sports, rules were made to protect the integrity of the game. But sometimes, those rules are broken weather intentionally or accidentally.
Here are the times rules of golf were broken:
Phil Mickelson’s two-stroke penalty at the 2018 Greenbrier Classic
Ryuji Imada’s 26-shot penalty at the 2010 Mission Hills Star Trophy in China
Raymond Floyd’s two, two-shot penalties in first round of the 1987 Players Championship
Jeff Maggert’s two-shot penalty in the final round of the 2003 Masters
Brian Davis incurs two-stroke playoff during playoff at 2010 Heritage
Bryson DeChambeau’s use of a drawing compass on the golf course
Dustin Johnson’s one-stroke penalty at the 2016 U.S. Open
Dustin Johnson’s two-stroke penalty on the 72nd hole at the 2010 PGA Championship
College golfer David Wicks gets two-stroke penalty for missing golf ball
Phil Mickelson chases after, hits moving ball on green at 2018 U.S. Open
Lexi Thompson’s two-stroke penalty at the 2017 ANA Inspiration for improperly replacing golf ball AND two-stroke penalty for unknowingly signing for an incorrect score
